Top Long Island Hikes to Enjoy with the Family This Summer | Laffey Real Estate

It’s time to lace up those boots and hit the trails; summer is one of the best times to hike around Long Island. With beautiful weather and stunning natural scenery, it’s easy to see why hiking has become such a popular pastime. Our real estate agents love hiking because it’s not only relaxing, but it’s also a great opportunity to get some steps in!  While it was challenging to only pick a handful, we managed to narrow down our five favorite Long Island hiking trails to share with you this season.

  • Kings Point Inner Loop – Kings Point Road, Kings Point, NY 11024
    The Kings Point Inner Loop is an easy 2-mile loop in Kings Point Park allows you to immerse yourself in nature. Not only is it a prime hiking destination, it’s a great spot for birding and photography. The trail is fairly flat, and there is plenty of shade.   • Old Westbury Gardens – 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568
    Come hike around the former estate of businessman John Shaffer Phipps. The Old Westbury Gardens trail is a 1-mile loop that weaves through beautiful gardens, ponds, landscaping, and the mansion itself. You’ll definitely want to stop and snap some pictures along the way. Pups aren’t allowed on this trail, but it is conveniently located near some nice Westbury homes for sale.
  • Hempstead Habor Woods – 145 W. Shore Road, Port Washington, NY 11050
    This trail system is in North Hempstead. Hikers and mountain bikers share the trails at Hempstead Harbor Woods, so be sure to walk with caution. There are 20 different routes to choose from, and the changing elevation makes for a challenging but fun hiking experience. 
  • Manorhaven Preserve And Nature Trail – 37-79 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050
    If you want to experience natural beauty and a beautiful marine environment on your hike, check out Manorhaven Preserve And Nature Trail. The trail is moderately challenging but also well-maintained. Not only is it a great place to get some exercise, but you can also learn a lot about local wildlife through the trails’ informative signage.   • Sagamore Hill Nature Trail – 12 Sagamore Hill Road, Oyster Bay, NY 11771
    A 1.5-mile loop that winds through an oak forest, a salty marsh, and a beach. There are some steep uphill and downhill sections on the Sagamore Hill Nature Trail which may only be suited for seasoned hikers; however, you’re sure to encounter many birds and other wildlife on your walk.
