Discover Long Island is partnering with The Great Gatsby Broadway. The collaboration celebrates the Gold Coast on Long Island’s North Shore and the Jazz Age, ahead of the iconic novel’s 100th anniversary in 2025.
The novel’s setting, described in the book as East Egg and West Egg, are said to be on the North Shore of Long Island, home to many gilded-age mansions, some of which are now available for visits or tours.
“We are delighted to partner with The Great Gatsby Broadway, a Tony-winning musical, to highlight Long Island’s beautiful Gold Coast region in commemoration of the centennial of this literary classic,” Kristen Reynolds, president and CEO of Discover Long Island, said in a news release about the partnership.
The arts are an economic driver to the region, and contributed $330 million to the Long Island economy, according to a 2023 study by the Long Island Arts Alliance.
“This collaboration with the Tony Award-winning musical and their incredibly talented cast connects the inspiration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless novel to the beauty and rich cultural heritage of Long Island, increasing awareness and driving visitation to the many Gatsby-era mansions, gardens and historical attractions our destination has to offer,” Reynolds said.
“We are so excited to partner with Discover Long Island to celebrate the deep connection that our show has with the region,” The Great Gatsby Broadway production team said in the news release. “A century ago, F. Scott Fitzgerald whisked readers away to the now-iconic mansions of Long Island’s Gold Coast, imprinting their opulence in the world’s imagination. Today, we are honored to get to do the same with our production of The Great Gatsby on Broadway.”
The collaboration includes various promotions that explore the landscapes and history of Long Island as well as showcase the array of talent within the Broadway production. From ticket giveaways and exclusive branded merchandise, to social media features, a cast appearance at Discover Long Island’s Annual Tourism Awards Gala, and more, this collaboration offers an opportunity to delve into the extravagance of the Roaring Twenties.
Discover Long Island said it will work with the Broadway team to promote many of the Gold Coast mansions, which include Oheka Castle, Bourne Mansion, Sands Point Preserve, Old Westbury Gardens, Coe Hall at Planting Fields, Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum and Caumsett Historic State Park.
Currently Discover Long Island is working to create limited-edition merchandise to promote the musical and the tourism organization. Giveaways may include tickets to the Broadway show and a Long Island mansion experience.
