Farmingdale-based Alpha Communications recently created an option for its popular building intercom system that works off a decal instead of a touchscreen.
The company, which supplies critical communication systems, such as nurse call, emergency call and Area of Refuge systems, throughout North America, is now marketing AlphaTouch Flex, a spinoff of its widely used AlphaTouch intercom.
With the Flex option, a building can have a simple decal adhered next to its entrance where a user’s cell phone scans a QR code and gets the directory for the building. The person can then communicate with the selected tenant with video and sound via the app installed on the tenant’s phone. The Flex decal is employed in lieu of the typical entry panel that building intercoms usually rely on.
The company says the cloud-based AlphaTouch system comes at a fraction of the cost of a hard-wired video intercom.
“You can use the system without rewiring the entire building,” said David Frankel, sales manager for Alpha Communications, who refers to AlphaTouch Flex as “the intercom without the intercom.”
Alpha Communications was founded 41 years ago, when husband-and-wife Mark and Madelyn Goldberg started it in the basement of their East Northport home. Today, the company operates out of a 7,500-square-foot space at 42 Central Drive in Farmingdale and the firm is run by the Goldberg’s daughter Jennifer Rozenbaum who serves as CEO, and her brother Jason Goldberg who is chief technical officer.
The manufacturer specializes in emergency, security communications and signaling systems used in hospitals, apartment buildings, schools, office buildings and other commercial and residential properties. Alpha markets its products to distributors and installers of electronic systems in the New York area and throughout the country.
Frankel said the new Flex innovation represents a true breakthrough in the intercom industry.
“There is really no limitation to who can use this system,” he said.
