Doherty Enterprises Inc.-owned Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations are again rallying to make the holiday season merry and bright for underprivileged kids.
Through Jan. 5, 2025, the Allendale-based restaurant group’s eateries in New York and New Jersey will fundraise in support of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Since 1998, the company has contributed more than $5.4 million to the cause.
As part of this year’s effort, the casual dining brand is launching several unique donation opportunities for customers to join in on.
Patrons can round up check to the nearest dollar to make contributions as well as purchasing “paper gift packs” or ordering a holiday-inspired cocktail. As a token of appreciation, Doherty will give guests who donate $10 or more a coupon for a complimentary appetizer at their next visit.
Additional activations include a Dec. 7 Breakfast with Santa event at various Applebee’s locations.
Spreading cheer
In a statement, Doherty Vice President of Operations Kurt Pahlitzsch said, “Our longstanding partnership with Toys for Tots has helped provide children in need with holiday cheer for over two decades.”
“This year, we’re excited to reach for an ambitious goal and offer our guests a meaningful way to join us in making a difference. Together, we’re not just raising funds—we’re uplifting our communities and ensuring every child experiences the joy of the season,” he said.
Doherty is considered one of the largest foodservice companies in the U.S. and among the largest privately held businesses in New Jersey. Its franchises also include Panera Bread, Jinya Ramen Bar and Chevys Fresh Mex. The family-owned business operates its own concepts, too: The Shannon Rose Irish Pub and Sputino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas.
After selling off most of its Florida and Georgia Applebee’s locations earlier this year, Doherty maintains ownership of 80 units in New Jersey and New York.
