You have a dozen different gadgets you depend on daily, from your phone to your laptop, your smart speakers, and more. Each of those gadgets has different accessories that go with it, from charger cords to earbuds to a seemingly endless supply of USB cables. Our REALTORS® can help you through the home-buying process, but that’s up to you when it comes to keeping your new home organized and clutter-free. We can, however, offer you these tips for reducing gadget clutter.
- Boxes
Most of your gadgets come in boxes with explicit instructions not to throw them out or any of the corresponding paperwork, or you’ll be ineligible to return them or use the warranty. Those boxes then sit around for ages, taking up too much space in Suffolk County homes for sale. To cut down on box clutter, designate a shelf just for gadget boxes, with the paperwork tucked neatly inside each. Look at the paperwork for each one and find out how long you have to return the device and when the warranty expires. Write these dates on the boxes and organize them on the shelf by date. Once the date has passed, you can safely throw the box away—or repurpose it for storing something else. - Cords, Cables, and Accessories
If you have a drawer or box containing a tangled mess of cords and cables you can’t identify, your first step is to go through them and see what they are. Untangle them and match them up with your devices. If you can’t find where they belong, get rid of them. Worst case scenario, if you do end up needing it later, you can usually find a replacement online. Once your cords are identified, use a label maker to mark each one’s purpose. Then, roll them up individually and store them neatly in a box. This can also be done with accessories like earbuds, gaming controllers, or flash drives. Mark them (or the box you store them in) clearly and keep them near the gadget they go with. For things that are in regular use, such as cell phone and laptop chargers, use Velcro to stick them to the wall or floor and keep them separate from other cords in the same area. - Recycling
Often, the biggest source of gadget clutter is old gadgets you don’t use anymore. Maybe they no longer work. Maybe you’ve upgraded to a newer model. Maybe the novelty wore off, and they no longer serve a purpose in your life. Whatever the reason, they’re just taking up space and need to be eliminated. You can’t just throw them away, though. Most electronics need to be specially disposed of. You can often bring phones and their accessories to your wireless company. If they don’t take it, they can tell you who will. Or do a little research. There are plenty of electronics recycling facilities near Nassau County homes for sale. Find the closest ones to your area and call them to see what they will and won’t take. Then, gather up all the gadgets you no longer need—and the cords that go with them—put them in a box and bring them to the facility to be disposed of properly.
