In this special section, “Long Island Business Influencers: Healthcare 2024, we salute and recognize these 33 individuals, all of whom work tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of the region. At Long Island Business News, we are committed to ensuring that we provide the best coverage regarding healthcare, whether that is through our print edition, online, and through our annual online Healthcare Forum that we host each spring. This past year, we focused on two topics that are top of mind for Long Islanders: mental health and elder care. Of course, many of this year’s influencers represent these areas, and ensure that our region’s seniors and those within the mental health community receive the best care possible.
This is especially important following the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated these and other issues. While many are still experiencing the after-effects of this, Long Island’s healthcare professionals are in the trenches to assist where possible. Whether this is establishing additional walk-in care services, emergency room protocols, mental health programs and upgraded senior living facilities and care, all of these focus areas remain at the forefront.
As a healthcare hub, located less than one hour from New York City, our region’s hospital systems were also nationally recognized recently for their high levels of care. According to U.S. News & World Report, 2024-2025 rankings, Northwell Health’s North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island in Mineola were named to the list’s honor roll of top 20 hospitals in the United States. Serving as a national benchmark, this year’s annual ranking also included Stony Brook University Hospital, Catholic Health, and more. This, of course being a true testament to Long Island’s medical professionals and the healthcare services they provide.
Aside from the topic of healthcare, we will also feature additional industries throughout the year. If you—or someone you know—is considered a Long Island influencer, please feel free to recommend them using our online form: https://libn.com/libn-influencers-recommendation-form/.
