Long Island hospitals are among the nation’s top healthcare facilities, according to U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2024-2025 rankings Tuesday.

Northwell Health’s North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island in Mineola were named to the list’s honor roll of top 20 hospitals in the United States.

Serving as a national benchmark, this year’s annual ranking includes such healthcare systems as Northwell Health NYU Langone Health, Stony Brook University Hospital, Catholic Health, and more.

NYU Langone was ranked as best in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery, for the third consecutive year. Its hospitals were also recognized as best in cardiology, heart surgier and vascular surgery.

“At NYU Langone Health, our culture of exceptionalism continues to deliver the best outcomes for our patients with one consistently high standard of care across all of our locations,” Dr. Robert Grossman, CEO of NYU Langone and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, said in a written statement. “Not only is our overall ranking one of the highest in the United States, but nine of our specialties are among the top five in the nation. We are unique in that exceptional patient outcomes come from all of our hospitals, with each of these contributing to our ranking. I am so proud of each and every one of our employees for helping deliver these fantastic results.”

North Shore University Hospital was  rated as New York State’s number one hospital for the second straight year. It ranked in the top 51 nationally in the 10 specialties it serves, with its orthopedics program placing seventh in the nation and its diabetes/endocrine disorders ranking 10th. Also making the rankings were Northwell’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Plainview Hospital, Huntington Hospital, South Shore University Hospital and Peconic Bay Medical Center.

“Providing an amazing patient experience is the ultimate goal at all of our Northwell hospitals and the latest U.S. News Best Hospitals list shows just how dedicated we are at making it happen,” Michael Dowling, Northwell’s president and CEO, said in a written statement.

The goal is to raise the health of the communities we serve in proactive, lasting and meaningful ways.”

Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center was ranked a top hospital in the country. The hospital is nationally ranked in eight adult specialties including: heart and vascular, orthopedics, geriatrics, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, diabetes and endocrinology, pulmonology and lung surgery and urology.

“Our employees’ dedication to excellence is exemplified in the high-quality care they provide every day,” St. Francis Hospital President Dr. Charles Lucore said in a written statement. “The national recognition we consistently receive reflects our drive to create an environment in which our staff’s top priority is always to achieve the most positive patient outcomes through holistic care.”

Catholic Health’s Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip earned high-performance ratings for COPD and heart failure, while St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown earned high-performance ratings for congestive heart failure, kidney failure and pneumonia. St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson earned high-performance ratings for hip replacement and knee replacement.

Stony Brook University Hospital ranked in the top 15 in the state, and was rated high performing in five adult specialties nationwide, including geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology and pulmonology and lung surgery. The evaluation of the health system includes data from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), which has locations in Hempstead, Commack and Hauppauge, was recognized as the best cancer center in the Northeast, the number two cancer hospital in the nation, and the number one hospital for urology care.

“It is an exceptional honor to be named again as a top hospital for cancer care,” Dr. Selwyn Vickers, president and CEO of MSK, said in a written statement. “This recognition reflects the unmatched compassion and dedication shown by MSK’s staff as they deliver leading-edge patient care each day. Congratulations to the MSK community on this extraordinary achievement.”
