A newly formed professional football league is planning to launch a team for Long Island that would play at Nassau Coliseum.
The Entertainment Football League Association (ENTFLA), in conjunction with Sands New York, is holding a press conference and launch event Wednesday at the Uniondale arena to introduce the concept to Long Island business leaders.
The new league aims to provide “world-class, live, professional sports-entertainment to sports-entertainment ‘deserts,’ through fan-focused day-long events over the summer, while delivering ongoing fan engagement year-round,” according to its website.
Game day for the new league starts with a tailgating event, celebrity meet-and-greet, the actual football game, followed by a music concert.
The indoor league says it currently has three teams that will play at arenas in Fitchburg, Mass., Danbury, Conn. and Morris Township, N.J., with a goal of having 30 teams by 2030, according to its website. A league spokesman said the Long Island team would be announced next month with its first event planned for June.
The league’s commissioner, NFL Hall of Famer and former Buffalo Bills receiver Andre Reed, is expected to join league executives at the Jan. 15 Nassau Coliseum press and launch event.
