Long Island is the place to be in the summertime. You can enjoy boat rides, touring museums, shopping, and exploring our local treasures. With gorgeous beaches and rolling hills, bustling communities, and rural paradises, Long Island has a little something for everyone. Our REALTORS® are always looking to pack as much fun into a summer weekend as possible, so we curated a list of some of our favorite Long Island day trips so you can do the same.
- Old Westbury Gardens – 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568
Tour Old Westbury Gardens, one of the most breathtaking of the Gold Coast Mansions. This gorgeous 200-acre estate formerly owned by John S. Phipps has walking trails that wrap around the property and will lead to stunning landscaping, ponds, and forests. The home itself is full of antiques, and you can take a self-guided or docent-led tour. If you’re impressed with the area, we’d be happy to book you a few tours of some amazing Nassau County homes for sale just a short drive away. - The Long Island Aquarium – 431 E. Main St., Riverhead, NY 11901
One of the best ways to beat the summer heat is to immerse yourself in underwater fun at The Long Island Aquarium. Explore dozens of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including the largest coral reef display in the Western Hemisphere. Doors open daily at 10 a.m., and if you’d like to visit this aquarium regularly, we can recommend some beautiful Suffolk County homes for sale nearby. - Captain Fish Port Jefferson – 118 W. Broadway, Port Jefferson, NY 11777
One of the best ways to experience Long Island is from the water, which is why we highly recommend a Captain Fish Port Jefferson cruise. These 75-minute boat rides will take up to six passengers along the shores of Port Jefferson Harbor and the Long Island Sound, so your party can enjoy spectacular views and a nice sea breeze. The company offers fishing charter excursions as well. If you’d like to fish more often, we can recommend some beautiful Port Jefferson homes for sale not too far from the water. - Montauk Lighthouse – 2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954
Take a tour of the oldest lighthouse in New York. The Montauk Lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington in 1792. Climb up to the top and admire the beautiful view of the shore below and enjoy some great photo ops. Trails allow you to see the lighthouse from multiple vantage points. There is also a fascinating museum that showcases the history of the eastern end of Long Island. - Americana Manhasset – 2060 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, NY 11030
Take a day-long trip to this high-end, open-air shopping center, where you’ll find boutiques, designer shops, luxury retail brands, and plenty of upscale restaurants. If you need a day to splurge, Americana Manhasset is the place to do it. You might need a coffee to keep you going throughout the day, so be sure to stop by Cipollini Pronto Cafe while you’re there. This popular shopping center is also conveniently located near some of our favorite Manhasset homes for sale.
